Our 'Edible Living' scheme
Edmundsbury Court gardeners won the Lambeth Community Pride Award 2016
It’s “grow your own” fruit, veg, and herbs in over 20 Edible Living schemes in Lambeth. Some are big and busy. Some are starting small, with more to come. Three years ago, there were none.
Food growing benefits individuals, promoting health and wellbeing. It benefits the community and the environment. Young people want to learn where food comes from. We’ve got more and more of them involved, for example the Junior Greenfingers on St Matthews.
Adults want skills development: we provide 8 to 10 sessions a month in spring and summer supported by professional gardeners. Last year, we ran our first accredited training course at Rosendale allotments.
Edible Living strengthens community-based activity. It gives residents more choice in how to use local spaces, and several schemes have successfully applied for up to £500 in grants from ‘Love your Roots' by Incredible Edible Lambeth to continue. It’s also a great way to meet new people, and make local connections.
